B7: ORGANISATION AND CULTURE
In this lesson, Organisation and Culture, we focus on three areas – management, the culture of your organisation and managing staff.
This is such a pivotal pillar of your digital journey: your plans can be very easily derailed by toxic management or by a toxic and unpleasant work culture. Unfortunately, this is also an area of the business that is often left to linger and not really given enough attention.
Our first section on management focuses on the common issues facing most managers in transition – not least, indecisiveness, an inability to admit to not understanding digital, inexperience, and working under pressure instead of planning ahead. We look at some research that shows those managers who have clear digital initiatives at the core of their strategy are higher on the maturity curve.
In the second section we look at the importance of culture in an organisation and use a framework to understand where you are in that conundrum.
Lastly, we look at staff and motivation, and there is a TED talk from John Doerr on OKRs – objectives and key results – that is highly recommended to watch, and implement if possible.
